The top photo is from 1972 when flood Agnes hit the Market Street Bridge in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. Flood Agnes is believed to be the worst natural disaster that has ever hit this area. The bottom photo was taken today just a few hours ago, nearly the same location. The river is still rising and about to break over the dike which protects a good portion of Kingston from flooding. Everyone stay safe. As of 15 minutes ago, everything has been shut down and no one is allowed on the roads or to leave their house. National Guard is here trying to help out as much as possible. Anyone in the area, please stay safe. It’s only just begun and it’s getting worse every hour.
Edit: This picture was now taken over 24 hours ago. The river is a lot higher. As of now. Our flood gates are failing. Our levees are giving out. Over 65,000+ people have been and are still being evacuated. It’s serious and it’s scary. Please reblog and let this known. Please.
this is the town where my grandmother lives. she lives in a big old beautiful victorian house.
I grew up hearing the horrific stories of the 1972 flood from my mother. It was awful and it scarred them all for life, and messed up their house and their whole town. I literally can not comprehend the fact this this storm is worse than all of the horror stories my mother told me as a child. Thank god my grandmother was able to get out but i am SO SO sad for all of the beautiful homes that will be destroyed.
UGHH SUCKSS
